Lubrication Principles and Market Prospects of Powder Metallurgical Oily Bearings

Powder metallurgy oil bearing is a porous alloy product containing lubricating oil in the pores. When the shaft rotates, due to the increase in friction temperature between the shaft and the bearing or the pumping effect, the lubricating oil will seep out of the inner diameter friction surface of the bearing. When the shaft stops rotating, the oil will return to the inside of the bearing, which is called self-lubricating oil bearing. Therefore, the consumption of lubricating oil is low, and it can be used for long-term operation without external supply of lubricating oil. It is very suitable for situations where oil supply is difficult and lubricating oil pollution is avoided. Compared with ordinary cast metal alloy bearings, oil bearing does not require an oil supply mechanism, and the design can be very simple. In addition, small pores in the sliding surface of the inner diameter of the oil bearing can cause "oil pressure leakage", which affects its load and increases the friction coefficient. Due to the gradual understanding of the characteristics of oil bearing by users and the avoidance of weaknesses, powder metallurgy oil bearing has gradually gained widespread application.

Advantages and disadvantages of powder oil bearing:

Advantages of oil bearing:

  1. Low vibration.

  1. The product is simple.

  1. Less noise than rolling bearings.

  1. Large degree of freedom in shape design.

  1. It can be made into porous metal materials.

  1. Processing operations can be omitted to save materials and energy.

  1. No special oil supply mechanism is required, and there is no need to add lubricating oil from outside.

  1. It can be made into several metals or composite materials of metals and non-metals that cannot be manufactured by general melting and casting methods, suitable for mass production and at a low price.

Disadvantages of oil bearing:

  1. Before use, its applicability should be fully verified.

  1. When producing in small quantities, the cost is higher.

  1. When cutting the inner diameter friction of bearings, it will worsen the surface porosity.

  1. Due to being a sliding bearing, the friction coefficient is higher than that of rolling bearings.

  1. Due to the porous nature of the material, its strength is not as strong as the corresponding cast material.

Due to the occurrence of "oil pressure leakage", the PV value has certain limitations and is not suitable for high loads.
